Meet our new Population Health Pharmacist
Welcome to our new Population Health Pharmacist, Lisa Richards, who is joining Sandy So in the WellSouth Pharmacy team.
Pou Tōkeke Population Health Pharmacists work with general practices, community pharmacies and Māori and Pacific health providers, specifically the latter, where they provide medication reviews and advice, hospital discharge support, planning and management of long-term conditions and disease management programmes and more.

Lisa, who grew up in Ngāmotu/New Plymouth (Ngāti Manawa), says her passion for healthcare and helping others led to a career in pharmacy.
“I came down to Ōtepoti / Dunedin to study in 2016 and graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor of Pharmacy. I then completed my internship year in 2020 (just in time for COVID, fun times!) and registered as a Pharmacist in December 2020. Since then, I have been working in community pharmacy and have made Dunedin my home. I am now excited to take on a new challenge in this role at WellSouth.”
Lisa will be working with our Kaupapa Māori providers, while Sandy works more closely with Pacific providers, holding drop-in pharmacy clinics.
She says the clinics cover
-
Medication reviews to ensure safe, effective, and appropriate use
-
Optimisation suggestions such as dose adjustments, deprescribing, or therapy changes
-
Patient education on how and when to take their medications – in particular, help with post medication changes or post discharge from hospital
-
Answers to questions or concerns about side effects, interactions, or adherence
Suggestions will be communicated back to the general practice where the client is enrolled.
