Mental Health and Wellbeing

WellSouth provides primary mental health services to support the overall health and wellbeing of our communities. Depending on the service, the care is  provided in general practice, from WellSouth offices,  or from other providers' facilities.

Brief Intervention Services
BIS provides short-term counselling to clients over the age of 20 with mild to moderate mental health issues, including, stress, anxiety, depression and concerns about drugs and alcohol.

Correction Mental Health and Wellbeing 
WellSouth clinicians provide support to improve the mental health of offenders and their whānau. 

Family Mental Health Services

Family Mental Health Service is WellSouth’s community mental health service for individuals of all ages and families experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties.

Tōku Oranga (Access and Choice)
'Here to help with the next step' Health Improvement Practitioners (HIPs), Health Coaches, and Community Support Workers are qualified  health professionals with experience in mental health. Based in general practitioners and working as part of the practice team, they can help improve wellbeing across a range of physical and mental health presentations.

Suicide Prevention

WellSouth team coordinates suicide prevention initiatives in the Southern region, working together with Southern DHB and other health and community providers across the district.
