Tilley Carroll
Practice Based Pharmacist, Te Anau
I have a community pharmacy background and joined the WellSouth Clinical Pharmacy team part-time in 2024. I work one day a week at Fiordland Medical Practice in Te Anau, and the rest of the week I spend teaching pharmacy technicians. I enjoy working closely with the practice team and believe in a holistic and patient-centred approach to healthcare. Outside of work I enjoy making the most of living in Fiordland and on wet and wintery days curling up next to the fire with a good book.
Sonia Cox
Practice-based Pharmacist Prescriber, Dunedin
I’m a clinical pharmacist of 20 plus years, now working as a practice-based pharmacist prescriber.
I enjoy helping people get the most out of their medicines, and to help colleagues prescribe medicines.
Out of work I enjoy gardening, DIY, dog walking, and tramping.
Catherine Herd
Practice-based Pharmacist, Dunedin
Originally from Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland, I started my pharmacy journey in Ōtepoti/Dunedin as a pharmacy student. After graduating I worked at Wellington Hospital and then moved back to Ōtepoti to be part of the New Zealand Formulary development team. I undertook postgraduate study during this time and became interested in what I could do as a pharmacist working with a general practice team.
I started working for WellSouth in 2016 as a Clinical Pharmacist. I really enjoy getting to know people and their health needs and supporting people to improve their health. Since 2021, I have been based at Broadway Medical Centre.
Away from work I enjoy walking, baking, movies, travel, and spending time with my family.
Sadia Mirza
Practice-based Pharmacist, Invercargill
Having grown up in Dunedin, I studied at Otago University and started working in community pharmacy for a few years. I then worked as a rotational pharmacist at Dunedin Hospital for five years and covered most of the wards during this time. Following this, I worked as a Senior Professional Practice Fellow at Otago University, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, and seeing patients at the School of Pharmacy Clinic.
Over the years, I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy from Curtin University (Australia) in 2014, registered as a US Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacist in 2015, then completed a Master of Clinical Pharmacy from Monash University (Australia) in 2018.
Early 2024 I started working part-time at WellSouth, and I’m currently based at He Puna Waiora Wellness Centre and also cover Bluff Medical Centre patients.
I enjoy being able to put my clinical skills to use to help patients and achieve better health outcomes for them. Outside of work, I am a busy mum of two, I enjoy baking and travelling around the South Island.
Bex McDonald
Office-based Pharmacist, Invercargill
I am originally from Wellington/Wairarapa but moved to Invercargill in 2011 and have been based here ever since. I have experience in hospital, community and primary care pharmacy. I was based in a large medical centre for several years working alongside a large team of GPs, NPs and nurses, and have recently transitioned into more of an office-based role, with a rural and equity focus.
I have a special interest in chronic pain management and improving diabetes management, and a passion for helping people to better understand how to use their medicines and other strategies to improve their health.
Angela Renall
Programme Lead and Practice-based Pharmacist Prescriber, Dunedin
Originally from Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, I have called Ōtepoti Dunedin home since 2011. I have the privilege to work in a split roll, first as programme lead for pharmacy where I lead a team of amazing pharmacists employed at WellSouth and provide guidance to the wider WellSouth Community about anything related to pharmacy in Southern.
Secondly, I spend half of my time each week working as a prescribing pharmacist in Dunedin. I enjoying working in collaboration with a primary care team and being able to make a real difference in people’s health journeys.
Outside of work I enjoy supporting our children on the side of many sports fields and spending our free time on boating adventures or biking.
Lisa Richards
Pou Tōkeke Māori, Population Health Pharmacist, Dunedin
My passion for healthcare and helping others led me to pursue a career in pharmacy. I came down to Ōtepoti Dunedin to study, graduated with a Bachelor of Pharmacy and registered as a Pharmacist in December 2020.
Since then, I have been working in community pharmacy and have made Dunedin my home. I’m excited to continue making a positive impact on the health of our community in my WellSouth role.
Outside of work, I enjoy playing netball, spending time with friends and family, and getting stuck into a good book.
