Food Security Support

WellSouth’s Low-Cost Food and Transport Maps are online resources showing basic information for services and groups offering affordable food and transport options in our local communities. Each map features a range of categories such as Community Foodbanks, Produce Boxes and Bags, Free Water Refills, Community Gardens & Orchards, Transportation Services, and Community Food and Meal Services.

What is a Low-Cost Food & Transport Map?

WellSouth’s Low-Cost Food & Transport maps were developed as an online resource showing affordable (free or lower cost) food and transport options available for communities in our Southern Region. Each option listed shows the location and basic details of community services and initiatives providing affordable food or transport assistance, skills or resources that help enable people to have better access to adequate and safe food for health & wellbeing.

Updated Maps

WellSouth has redeveloped these maps to help address health and wellbeing outcomes associated with food insecurity and complex inequities - the Covid-19 pandemic has only emphasised the need for support in this area. Each map has been updated and designed as an online resource for Primary Care providers and Social Service agencies to use alongside and support patients/clients experiencing food insecurity and financial challenges. However, these maps are also available for anyone in the community to access at any time.

As these maps are live resources they will need updated regularly as the support and services provided in our communities often changes. We welcome you to contact us with information about new or existing food and transport options by email: health.promotion@wellsouth.org.nz or phone: 03 477 1163
