From the latest https://www.nzdoctor.co.nz/article/news/call-greater-use-hips-provide-better-care article:
WellSouth Primary Health Network has been delivering the Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora Access and Choice programme, which funds HIPs, health coaches and community support workers, for over four years.
Genevieve Obbeek is based in Dunedin and leads the PHO’s arm of the scheme, which covers Otago and Southland. Ms Obbeek has previously worked as a HIP and is a qualified occupational therapist.
“We’re at the point in the programme where we’re almost five years in. We’ve been recruiting practices and building up the workforce and training people.”
Ms Obbeek is keen to see more providers use the programme and wants to highlight how it can help GPs and nurses meet patients’ needs.
“I think there’s an opportunity for GPs and primary practices to get more out of the service.”
